A while ago, we published a blog and used the term “Erase - Erase" and now some people are asking "What Is that “Erase – Erase” Business?” So, here is our best definition of that concept and an addiction to the previous blog.
We have come to believe that thoughts and feelings are stored in short term memory banks for a while before they are cemented into the long term memory banks. Let’s say that I say this about myself, “I’d like to do some writing, but I’m too lazy.” (Erase – Erase) I want to be really clear about this – even if I wrote that sentence as an illustration for this blog, the message was sent to my brain. I don’t want it to stay there so I told my brain to erase it before it got saved into the hard drive.
I was giving a speech to a service club a few years ago and a club member picked me up to take me to the meeting place. He kept making self-deprecating comments about himself and laughing, for example, “I was going to go to college but I didn’t want to wear out my brain (Ha, ha, ha).” And - “I’m not smart enough to read anything like that.” Hearing enough of this, I said, “Why do you talk so negatively about yourself?”
He replied, “Oh, I’m just kidding.”
Well, that brain of his didn’t know that he was kidding – it accepts what he said as the truth about himself and his abilities. The Subconscious Mind believes everything you tell it about yourself and everything you accept from others about yourself. Self-talk is one of the processes for identifying who we are. If we aren’t alert and careful we will create a person we don’t want to be.
Our opinions of ourselves can create barriers to our performance and can define limitations to who we are and what we can do. So be alert - When you say “I can’t …” or “I never …” make sure you are not diminishing yourself - Erase - Erase it.
Oh, I must bring this expression up to the modern Computer Age version:
“Delete - Delete”.
