Traditions

I am an American.
I am 98 years old - My three departed older brothers and I are World War veterans - We are the sons of immigrants.
This week in my church group that is studying the Old Testament of the Bible we were asked, “In what ways is your faith commitment a continuing of an important tradition?” I responded:
For me, some things in our secular world are Sacred Traditions:
The Constitution of the United States - and all of the people who have lived and died for it.
The Capitol Building of the United States - the soul of our Nation.
The Cemeteries and Graves of our departed military heroes.
The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and our Memorials.
The Medal of Honor - The highest honor of our Nation.
My United States Navy Oath of Enlistment.
The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America.
When my late wife and I visited the Capitol, the feelings that I had there were of Reverence and Belonging - This is my Country and I am in a sacred place.
If I were in the US Navy now I would be ready to fight against our nation’s foreign enemies - I am now opposed to our domestic enemies - those people who would destroy our Republic, even while reciting our Pledge of Allegiance. I’m deeply concerned that if Trump were to be re-elected, more of our traditions would be in danger of being dishonored or even lost.
