Inspirational Coaches live and work with positive expectancy. It is a way of life for them. They have a purity of spirit that defies description, but the observer is acutely aware of its presence. Can you remember back to that elementary teacher who you treasure, who was always there for you? Who always expected you to learn; to ‘behave’; to be the best you could be?
Being an Inspirational Coach is very simple but not easy. It takes consistent, hard, enjoyable work. She expects children to want to learn, to want to conduct themselves in an appropriate manner, to want to be responsible for their own actions. The Inspirational Coach is always looking for good behavior and the best work possible. She is forever looking at the possibilities. “What can Matthew accomplish with my assistance?” “How can I best work with Josey so that she will become a responsible, self-motivating person?”
You don't have to be the coach of a national championship team to be an Inspirational Leader. I assisted Dr. Ernest Sturch, Vice-President - Southeastern Oklahoma State University - in coaching a 12 and under Bambino Baseball League team in Durant, Oklahoma, for several years. Over a span of 23 years, Ernie helped hundreds of kids to play their best, but over and above that those kids always felt their best with him around. He cared about every one of those kids and they knew it. He didn't always have the best team and win the most games but he and his kids shared many great experiences.
That's how it should be and that's how it can be.
