On the Falcons, you and the other coaches have chosen to use the term Game Changers to describe the players who begin games in the dugout.

What’s a Game Changer? Game Changer represents an important change of mindset for both players and coaches. With a shout out of acknowledgement to the U.S. Women’s National Team, we want to encourage you to consider re-naming your non-starters - Game Changers.

This subtle yet important shift in mindset encourages players who are ‘not a starter’ in a particular game to recognize their importance to their team and the game. Remember, the Falcon’s ‘The Wolf and the Pack’. team philosophy. Game Changers are part of our Pack.

Labels for youth players, or any age play for that matter, are meaningful. Labeling players as subs, substitutes, reserves, bench players, role players, etc. can impact a player's self-esteem and readiness to positively contribute on game day.

A Game Changer carries a much different meaning. Believing and knowing your team is counting on you is critical - an important part of the Pack. Everyone belongs. Everyone contributes.

Coming into a game or contest with the mindset to positively make a difference sets the stage. Expectations are clear. Standards around role and responsibilities are raised. Game Changers are ready to impact the game.

Playing time is a precious resource. All players need to play in every game. Meaningful playing time in games is key to development and fun. Creating a ‘Wolf and the Pack’ environment allows all players to support and encourage each other regardless of their role that game day.

Rotate your Game Changers regularly. Allow all your players to experience the thrill and importance of being a Game Changer.

Tune in next week as we introduce the Falcon’s - Game Changers!
